<title>ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF GREEN SYNTHESIZED ZnO NANOPARTICLES</title>

<description>ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF GREEN SYNTHESIZED ZnO NANOPARTICLES
Asokan, Surya
This project work focuses on antibacterial property of green synthesized Zno nanoparticle. ZnO finds a&#13;
wide variety of applications and is one of the most studied wide band gaps (~3.2eV at room&#13;
temperature) material. ZnO exhibits interesting electrical, optical and chemical properties. Here&#13;
structural and optical property of the as-synthesized nanoparticle were characterized by XRD and UV-&#13;
Visible spectroscopy X-Ray Diffraction technique was used to identify the crystalline structure, phase&#13;
purity and crystallite size of the as-prepared Zno nanostructures. It was observed that ZnO nano powders&#13;
are highly crystalline and single phase with hexagonal structure. UV-Visible absorption studies reveal&#13;
the Optical characterisation of the as-prepared ZnO nanostructures were conducted using JASCO V760&#13;
Spectrophotometer. Direct bandgap of the ZnO nanostructures is obtained by this study. Bandgap of the&#13;
samples were found to be 3.18eV. Antibacterial studies showed that green synthesised grown ZnO&#13;
nanostructures can be used effectively for the destruction of human pathogens Kpneumonia and Shigella

<title>FLORISTIC STUDIES ON FERNS AND LYCOPHYTES OF THAZHAVA GRAMA PANCHAYAT, KOLLAM</title>

<description>FLORISTIC STUDIES ON FERNS AND LYCOPHYTES OF THAZHAVA GRAMA PANCHAYAT, KOLLAM
B, Malu
Pteridophytes are an ancient group of plants, characterised as a significant plant group in the earth&#13;
as they are with a large number of relict and endemic taxa. India is one among the megadiverse&#13;
countries, of which western ghats and Srilanka are regarded as one of the hotspot of the total 34&#13;
global hotspots. Since some species exhibit large complexities, in an overall view this plant group&#13;
is facing the threat of vulnarability and extinction. In this condition a floristic assessment is&#13;
necessary to determine the present status of plant distribution. The Present work is on the&#13;
diversity and taxonomy pteridophytes of Thazhava panchayath of kollam district. About 26&#13;
species of pteridophytes were collected from the study area; which comes under 10 families. In&#13;
which pteridaceae is the largest family with 6 genus and 10 species. Among the collected species&#13;
most species are included in least concern category; Salvinia molesta included in Invasive Species&#13;
Specialist Group and Pteris perrottetii is endemic to south India according to IUCN.
